    Default DTV Tropo to Ohio

With all the tropo developing in the Midwest, I was hoping to at least get some of the leftovers here in Ohio. I noticed last night that signals were slowly improving, so I gave up on sleep and decided to rotate the antenna around all night. It has been way too long since any of this tropo ever made its way here. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to go mobile, but signals were being received nicely at my home, even from what I thought was the worst direction, the west. Signals were around 200 miles from many directions. It resulted in just 2 new logs and a bunch of relogs I've seen with the mobile setup but not at home before.

Yep, it's still dominant here, as I am currently watching WEWS here in Michigan. You know how strong it is right now when you can literally receive perfect city-grade signals from WKYC and WEWS in Michigan at 2:30 in the afternoon with only a second-floor-placed indoor antenna.

Matt, keep an eye out for more DX. I’ve been looking at the autologgers on RabbitEars.info, and it appears that WGGN 42, WVPX 23, and WRLM 47 may be possible catches for you as well. Those are commonly received by the tuner in Ann Arbor, which I’m assuming isn’t far from you. This morning I checked, and a tuner in Buffalo was receiving WBGU 27 all the way across the long direction of Lake Erie. So no doubt, there was some good lake-enhanced tropo going on as well as regular tropo. I don’t commonly see Detroit here, but I did manage to catch WKBD and WWJ this morning on my home tuner.

I heard of some nice tropo catches from other WTFDA members, but I thought I'd post some screenshots of mine here. The past 2 days, I've received 13 new logs bringing my overall DTV total up to 149. These are all my new logs...

19/9 WGN Chicago, Il (306 miles)
24/21 WPTA Ft. Wayne, IN (177 miles, over local WOIO)
    27/27 CIII-27 Peterborough, ON (273 miles)
32/57 WBUW Janesville, WI (416 miles, new record)
33/6 WITI Milwaukee, WI (341 miles)
35/34 WNIT South Bend, IN (230 miles)
39/69 WMYS South Bend, IN (230 miles, 15 kW)
42/16 WNDU South Bend, IN (241 miles, local WGGN 42 at reduced power)
    44/43 WZPX Grand Rapids/Lansing, MI (210 miles)
45/59 WXIN Indianapolis, IN (247 miles)
45/64 WLLA Kalamazoo, MI (213 miles)
    46/46 WALV-CD Indianapolis, IN (245 miles, 15 kW)
51/50 WPWR Gary, IN (306 miles)

I wasn't expecting this kind of good tropo to occur this late in the year. It's the best I've seen yet since I started seriously DXing last December.

Very nice, Andrew! My first year of DXing in 2007 got me 97 DTV logs. Congrats on breaking the 400 mile barrier. This November has been a good one for Tropo. Hope December provides a fee good openings.

One new log received here in the Akron area this weekend... WMYO 51/34 & 58... yes, that's two virtual channels and one real channel. It's the first time I've ever seen two different virtual channels on one signal. I guess we'll probably see more of that after the spectrum repacking.

There were also tons of the usual relogs under 300 miles. Detroit, Lansing, Ft. Wayne, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Toledo, Erie, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Altoona, London, and Toronto were all seen here in Akron Ohio. One notable catch was WHVL-LD at 190 miles... at only 15 kW, the signal really gets out well.

Congratulations. There's lots of nice stuff here. I wish I knew that all this was going on earlier than I did.
