Andrew... great DX and great screen shots. A lot of stations there I'd like to get. I've tried for CICA-19 Toronto numerous times, but even though ch 19 is empty during dead band conditions, Toronto is almost in direct line with Syracuse, and WSYT-19 is the one Syracuse station I get when there's tropo, and they're often strong. I need CICA to jump over WSYT one day.

I'm still looking for anything further east like Syracuse, Watertown, Kingston, Ottawa, Scranton, Harrisburg and NYC. But I have yet to see any of it. I think that some possibilities would be WNYS, WWTI, WWNY, CKWS, CBOFT, WSWB, WQPX, WHP, WCBS, WNYW, and WMBC... those are all good channels for DX here. I'll continue monitoring whenever the next big eastern tropo opening occurs.

I still think my sub-decode on 31 was WSWB. WANE was absent from here at the time... unless it's possible to come in stronger with the antenna aimed the opposite direction, which I don't think was possible. WTAJ was even disappearing, I think due to interference from WQPX.

Three new DTV logs tonight brings the total up to 154. I had to use my portable setup to get them. Here is a photo of what I was using...

    The new logs were...
    WUSI 19/16 Olney, IL @ 371 miles
    WIPX 27/63 Bloomington, IN @ 259 miles
    WTTV 48/4 Bloomington, IN @ 259 miles

WTTV was too elusive to capture a photo, but the auto-scanner got it while I was checking other channels. Here are a few photos of the other two new logs...

Nice work, Andrew! Your are a serious DXer when willing to drive 10 miles and set up a remote. Most of us just go into another room and do our DX. I hope you can find a location to have a full time remote like Steve and I have at Milford. Part of the hobby is the technical work required to get good DX. 154 logs is quite good for your first year in a difficult location. Hope you double that in 2016!

Thanks Mike, I'm hopeful that 2016 will bring plenty of new logs, but it's going to be a lot harder to double that total now. It will take a few really good tropo openings. I still need a lot from the east, and I don't need to go mobile for that direction... east is a good direction here at my home.

So far this winter, the DX has been uneventful, but that's to be expected. The last time there was any good tropo was on Christmas Day when I was seeing DTV signals from Illinois and Indiana. There has been some wacky weather this weekend. It was in the mid-60's yesterday and very windy, but it brought in some unexpected winter tropo. The map was indicating a red blob, Click image for larger version.

    Here are some photos...

WVAH 19/11 Huntington, WV @ 184 miles was showing an excellent signal.

There is also a new channel clogger in downtown Cleveland, 29 miles from here, but I don't see any signal from it unless I use my mobile setup in a better spot. It's WEKA-LD, and it basically broadcasts from a hole, which is why I can't see it here. But it was recent new log #157.

    Nice catch of WLS.

It appears it won't ever show up here due to WWJ.

Nice DX Andrew. Good going on logging WLS RF-44. Too bad you missed the screenshot. You'll just have to catch WLS again.

No DX here.... although 2 years ago on March 8, 2014 I had a nice opening to the south, with my first logging of WFXB RF-18 Myrtle Beach, SC, still my most-distant tropo (598 mi). Maybe this Spring-type weather we're getting here the week will result in some nice DX.

I was surprised because in order to see WLS here, it had to be stronger than WWJ, WTLW, and WZPX, which are all near the same direction and same channel. This tropo was one of those strange types where more distant signals were actually being seen more often than the closer ones.

I had to try my mobile setup in order to catch it. I wasn't seeing anything at home. I had a policeman approach me and ask what I was doing in the vacant parking lot at night, but when I explained it to him, he laughed and said "have fun".
