Default Cuban TV Received in Ohio

Santa Clara Cuba is coming in nicely this evening. I'm seeing channels 3 and 5. The distance is about 1300 miles. 3 is CMEC and 5 is CMEA.

Nice. I haven't seen any Cuban TV here since about '09 before all the analogs went off. Cuba wasn't all that uncommon here at one time.

Nice video, Andrew. After the FM skip died down, I took a look at analog TV, and found Cuba on ch 2, Rebelde with boxing. I believe this is from Habana. It was coming in a bit better when I first tuned in than when I finally got around to taking this photo.

Matches the schedule for Tele Rebelde too:

"SERIE MUNDIAL DE BOXEO SEMIFINAL Leones de Gran Bretaña vs Astana Arlan Kazajistán (En vivo)"

It's some international boxing tournament I've never heard of, but wow, a live sporting event on Tele Rebelde! It doesn't happen often, and I think it only happens if the sport doesn't have a large commercial load — Sunday soccer is often live, for instance.

Nice screenshot Chris. It's better to see a color image, but I can't find a color TV that has the same sensitivity as my RCA black-and-white TV. Last year, I had a color TV side-by-side with this black-and-white one, and it took a much stronger signal just to see anything on it. Havana and Santa Clara are about 160 miles apart. I wasn't seeing anything from Havana, even though it's about the same distance as Santa Clara. It just must've been where the e-clouds were located.

That was on my 2 1/2 yr old LG TV. It does seem to have a "squelch"... but it doesn't take much signal to break through. Anything weaker would be pretty unviewable anyway. But instead of blue screen, it's all snow if signal is below the threshold. This is first time I've had a VHF Lo antenna hooked up to that set (MXV-5100).

The e-skip season kicked off this morning with the usual Cubans on all low-VHF analogs.

    2 CMBA Havana
    3 CMEC Santa Clara
    4 CMBR Havana
    5 CMEA Santa Clara
6 - unknown battling local WLFM-LP, likely Havana

Your analog TV-6 was Cubavision in Televilla, assigned callsign CMBC with 129kW with a zero offset.

Here is a picture of the transmission antenna tower. It is located 4.5 miles northwest of Jose Marti International Airport.

I think you're correct. There are some weaker channel 6's in Cuba and a Franken FM in Miami, but those are doubtful. It's hard to get a clear video over local WLFM-LP. Havana always seems to be weaker than Santa Clara. I've seen Camaguey on channel 4, which I've been able to ID based on the sports programming. Channel 4 in Havana usually appears when I see Tele Rebelde on channel 2, but that's always weak, and I haven't gotten any ID other than references to Cuba. Maybe some day the e-skip will deliver stronger signals from Havana.
