    Default Analog TV from Cuba

I have not had a chance to travel to Cuba yet but here's the next best thing - cruising along the coastline about 30 miles off the coast. Analog TV is alive and well in Cuba. I was not able to receive digital TV based on the Chinese standard.

    Thank you,

    Ivan NO2CW

They really don't care about blocking out foreign logos, do they...

When was this recorded? The Carolina-Washington game aired on December 19 and I'd be curious to see when it was aired since Tele Rebelde is notorious for airing events days or weeks after they happen.

    You have:

    ?, Cubavisión, ? 7
    ? 10
    Tele Rebelde 11
    CE2 15
    ? 16
    MV 17
    ? 18
    CE, ? 19
    MV 20
    MV 21
    CE2 22
    CE2 24
    CE2 25
    MV 27
    MV 33
    CE 49
    TR 52
    MV 56
    CV? 58
    MV 60
    MV? 66
    CE2 68

The Guanabo telecentro in La Habana has MV 17/CE 49/TR 52/CV 58/CE2 68 and you seem to have all of those. (It also had Canal Habana on 29.)

Some recordings were made on a westbound pass - January 2 and some were made on the eastbound pass January 7, 2017. You can sort of see in the programming. I should make a separate posting about the superstrong signal from WFUN and WJAN in a place where no other US TV signals were being received.

Nice video Ivan. I did some analog TV DX off the coast of Cuba and the Dominican Republic back in 2010. I was using an Auvio portable 3.5" TV, and signals were actually very decent using just the tiny built-in whip antenna. Here are a few photos of the Cubans I had. It appears we may have had the same analogs 16 and 22...

I'm not sure about these ones, but I think they may be Dominican. I know the channel 37 is for sure...

    Ivan....

That must have been quite the trip! We actually were in the Keys on Jan 2 for DX, but all I could get was a fuzzy 9 Cubavision.

Telesur is always Canal Educativo 2.

So Tele Rebelde now does NFL? Take away commercials and you may have a 90 minute program.

Raymie---there was a time when Cuba blocked the logo bugs. It would look quite gaudy and embarrassing. I haven't seen those blocks for years now.

Oh yeah---WJAN has a facility somewhere in the Keys, I think, but I cannot find it in a search. Not sure the RF or COL.

I once had excellent ch 60 MV in Islamorada; but that was before 4G, where 57-61 are totally messed now. Flamingo in Everglades Park would be the only place to try for it now.

Man I gotta get on one of these cruises. Don't suppose they'd notice if I brought a 7' parabolic on board?

Thanks for posting. The band really is as full as the maps say. Hopefully I'll be able to DX some of them this year.

Christopher and Ryan, I’ve seen your YouTube videos from DX in the Florida Keys. It’s always fun to look at the old analog signals. I went to Key West in 2012, and I tried doing some TV DX… but there wasn’t much to see there. The last cruise I went on was in 2013. On the way back from Cozumel, the boat came close enough to Havana to get some very nice signals from the TV analogs. We weren’t close enough to see the island, but it was close enough to use a small 5” whip antenna and get the low-VHFs and UHFs perfectly (no parabolic required). A flat Mohu Leaf would’ve done an excellent job if I had one at the time. It seems like when you’re 30 miles off shore, signals are actually very clean… no multipath or interference.

The Cuban low-VHF analogs appear here in Ohio very often during e-skip. It seems like that’s about all I ever get here. I must have some kind of direct pipeline. Santa Clara pops up on 3 and 5 most frequently. And the Ku satellite dish in my backyard gets Cubavision as well as the Cuban radio networks 24/7.

570 Radio Reloj is detectable here in Ohio every night after WKBN switches patterns.
