After a long silence, it's back on the air again...

It now IDs as "AM 750 and 1490, WKRO." According to the FCC it's gone back to one of it's old call-signs, WRIK. It's running an info / talk program as I type. WKRO is located in Cairo, Il. not very far from Brookport, IL.

    It's dead, again.
It ran dead air for a while, now it's just plain dead.
Are we noticing a trend here?

The trend to the dead air is Jason Crockett the FM stations GM. He told me personally that AM stations are worthless, and that he wants it off the air. I spent 3 months breathing life back into their Harris 1A transmitter, I also performed maintenance on the unipole antenna system. I lost count of how many mice I pulled from the transmitter rig. It is a shame that 750 remains off the air, that Harris transmitter sounds so good when all tuned up. The audio that was provided for it was very narrow, but acceptable for talk, the audio originated from the studios at the Kentucky Oaks Mall over a Barix system at the lowest bitrate possible. I played some 70's wave file audio from the transmitter site while repairing it, again what a wonderful sounding transmitter. Too bad that the owner Dan Stratemeyer allows his brother Samuel to destroy such a nice property and allow Mr. Crockett to get his way. Mr.Crockett turned off the programming less than 48 hours after I left the Brookport area. From what I understand the transmitter remained on with a dead carrier for close to 5 weeks. The transmitters sign on/off commands relied on the automation which was turned off at the mall studios. I have filed with the FCC and pointed out 19 very serious violations with 98.3 and 750, I doubt if anything will happen, Samuel Stratemeyer is politically connected.

    750 remains dead.

98.3's top tower light is still out.
