Mostly Mexican MWDX to Enid OK, April 7-14, 2017

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also VHF/UHF, sometimes utility, ham, which may be found in several archives without much delay, such as
    http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:

All times and dates strictly UT. Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S inside E-W or inside randomwire N-S; Nissan stock caradio as specified; ICR-75 E-W longwire

** MEXICO. 650, April 14 at 1157, good signal from XETNT, Los Mochis, Sinaloa, which really gets out on skywave. Much better now than any other XE in the 500s, 600s or 700s, altho 730 XEHB Chihuahua is weakly audible too. XETNT with music, 1159 full ID for XHTNT 106.5 and XETNT 650, both Radio 65. 6 am timecheck, announces newscast, but not yet, back to songs. Today`s Enid sunrise: 1159 UT on way to earliest of the year in about two months, 1113 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 930, Friday April 14 at 1228 UT, WKY with no morning DJ show which was still shown on their website April 1, but repeated IDs as ``930 AM WKY Deportes`` The call letters always pronounced in English. String of national and local ads & PSAs, including one in English for an OKC Low-Testosterone business --- sports fans have got to keep it up! 1232 UT plugs WKY carrying Texas Rangers SBGs. 1233 UT rejoins network ESPN Deportes.

The website still uses the old name,
    http://www.laindomable.com/
but has wiped musical show info, except for this presumably now outdated about the DJ known as The Roadrunner, (tho check to be sure whether he`s not on M-F at 21-01 UT). I am preserving here for posterity [sic without fixing up accents, horrendous comma splices]:

** U S A. 1480, April 7 at 0122 UT, South Asian song is somewhat atop the QRM, so apparently KBXD Dallas is still on with R. Namaste. I was wondering, since haven`t heard it in some time. Best to check around sunrise (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, April 9 at 0650 UT past 0703 UT, South Asian songs are dominating, presumed KBXD Dallas with Radio Namaste, and suspected on 50 kW day power/pattern. No announcements heard unless while I dozed off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, April 14 circa 1200-1230 UT, no R. Namaste from KBXD Dallas unless it`s the SAH vs dominant KQAM Wichita. Should be in on SRS with 50 kW day power; meanwhile KTNO Spanish religion also from The Metroplex is good and dominant on 1440; so is KBXD off again? Recently was hearing it dominant at night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

"... including one in English for an OKC Low-Testosterone business --- sports fans have got to keep it up!"

Reminds me of XERA (eventually, XERF) and the, "goat gland" cure.

** OKLAHOMA. 930, Sunday April 16 at 1228 UT, tune-in just in time to hear closing of weekly 7 am CT pubaffs show in English, `Sunday Morning Magazine` which WKY is still carrying post-flip to SS ESPN Deportes elsewhen, inviting potential guests to contact them; immediately back to Spanish ID. Previously also heard but not synchro on sibling KWPN 640, both licensed to RADIO LICENSE HOLDING CBC, LLC along with some FM stations (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1390, April 20 at 0609 UT, local KCRC is open carrier/dead air. STILL so at next check 1211 UT --- I bet it was thus all night, no one caring or noticing at station which lost plugin from a sports network. Sibling 107.1 KNID is still alive at 1221 UT check, you bet! That`s what matters. By next check 1345 UT, KCRC has resumed stupid sportstalk.

Lack of splatter made DXing 1380 and 1400 easier, but nothing definite; two SS on 1380, probably Houston and Tulsa (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. IBOC checkup on major CBS AM stations, April 19 at 0148-0150 UT: NOT heard around 1160 KSL, 1120 KMOX, 830 WCCO, 780 WBBM; maybe still on 670 WSCR; noise definitely still infesting 1080 KRLD. Altho updated 21 March 2017, I think quite a few more here are now ex-IBOC:
    http://topazdesigns.com/iboc/station-list.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1380, April 15 at 0446 UT, Spanish religion about ``el caudillo de Israel``, i.e. KRCM Shenandoah TX, probably on 22 kW day power (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, April 15 at 0445 UT, South Asian songs dominating again this time of night, no doubt KBXD Dallas (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1640, April 15 at 0437 UT, local KZLS (Alex Jones accusing salon.com of lying about him; he makes me want to puke), with an understation, traces of Spanish. Rather than Argentina or Perú, I`m confident it is KBJA Sandy UT, the only SS known in North America on 1640. No sign of WTNI Biloxi MS with silly sportstalk in English, which is the usual understation, and often QRMing KZLS as if on daypower (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 800, April 20 at 1303 UT, after Mex NA, sign-on by a station with address in Ciudad Juárez, seems to mention FM 102.7. As usual, a struggle to copy weak signal, no borderblaster, with near-local KQCV OKC nulled as much as possible.

XEROK, Radio Cañón is not known to have an FM, but adding that is certainly the trend on both sides of la frontera. Wikipedia gives website as http://calibre800.com/ but that`s the newscast it carries, not the station per se, and no sign of an FM mentioned there. 102.7 may be wrong, as there is a K-love translator on that in nearby Anthony TX, altho as such would be subject to bumping by a US non-translator, and presumably Mexican (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

XEROK couldn't migrate if it wanted to — no migration frequencies were made available for Juárez.

The only 102.7 allotments the FCC has in Chihuahua are in Ciudad Guerrero, which is west of Cuauhtémoc, and a "locality" (seemingly a few houses) called Cajoncitos, which is in the middle of nowhere on the international border.

I'm trying to figure out where in the world this came from and nothing is making sense.

** MEXICO. 570, April 28 at 0455, dominant signal here with choral NA early, stops at 0456 but no ID, so sign-off? Nothing further heard. Loops south, so I would expect XEBJB Monterrey NL. IRCA Mexican Log as of 2015 showed XEBJB as 24 hours, but some others going off at 0500 or 0600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 800, April 27 at 1200 UT, XEROK with choral NA, near-local KQCV OKC nulled as much as possible. This time I can copy enough of the full ID which follows at 1202 to tell that Radio Cañón with street address is *not* mentioning an FM frequency with a seven in it, but instead after 800, they say ``Grupo 7`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 596 kHz, April 22 at 1838 UT check, high noon, still JBA carrier which I traced months ago to a spur out of 1640 KZLS, east of Hennessey (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGESET)

    ============

** U S A. IBOC noise check around 0456 UT April 28: 670 WSCR, 780 WBBM, 830 WCCO, 1080 KRLD (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 690, April 28 at 0454 UT, outro from a network (?) called Radio One, then local weather from KGGF Coffeyville KS, axually from a YL weatherperson at NewsOnSix = KOTV-45 (for a while longer), Tulsa. I continue to lament that KGGF no longer carries Jim Bohannon at 02-05 UT, which used to be our best source, so at 0457 UT I check whether he`s still on: KWTO 560 Springfield MO, KFEQ 680 St Joseph MO --- yes, he is. KWTO is where he worked early in his career. I don`t find a network named Radio One in the list on page 271 of the NRC AM Log, nor as a station group on page 276, nor as a show on page 272.

    `When Radio Was` is on the schedule at 11 pm-midnight CT M-F
    http://kggfradio.com/kggf-am/kggf-am-line-up
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 770, April 23 at 1214 UT, steady signal mentions crawfordbroadcasting.com and loops N/S. Surely it`s my nearest at that angle after sunrise here, KAAM Garland (Metroplex) TX. But that station is not licensed to Crawford, and the website shows their only 770 is KCBC San Francisco (Manteca) CA, certainly not what I am hearing with its lobes into the Pacific, even if on 50 kW cardioid day pattern. KAAM program schedule
    http://www.kaamradio.com/schedule/
states merely `public affairs`` for 7-7:30 am Sundays. Apparently they carry some Crawford program (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1020, April 28 at 0500 UT, singing ID for Radiovisión Cristiana (1330 NYC), so KCKN Roswell NM is currently active, and plenty to QRM KOKP Perry OK with a heavy SAH, let alone KDKA Pittsburgh PA which it is supposed to protect (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1030, April 23 at 1221 UT, IDs as ``Real Country 1030 AM, KCWJ`, i.e. Blue Springs (Independence) MO (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1140, April 23 at 1223 UT, jazz show with classic performances from 1948, 1949; 1241 UT Miles and the Nonet. Tight DF for NE/SW, atop some SS QRM from AR or NL, 1258 UT finally YL talkover mentions Kansas City, so KCXL Liberty MO, now on 4 kW non-direxional day power. Name of show in passing sounded like ``Neon Jazz``, but program schedule http://www.kcxl.com/shows.html lists `Neon Beat` at 6-8 am CT and all afternoons Saturdays & Sundays, otherwise far-right extremist talk shows (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1875, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

    Re: ** U S A. 1640, April 15 at 0437 UT, local KZLS (Alex Jones accusing

Glenn - re 1640 don't forget Juventus don Bosco from Dominican
Republic. I have pointed out to the editors that the current edition
of WRTH omits all Dominican Republic stations from their Central
American listings. 73 (/Andrew Brade, England, DX LISTENING DIGESET)

O yes, I had a gnawing feeling something was missing. But still KBJA
would be far more likely here. DR is of course not in Central America,
but grouped with Caribbean, Bermuda & Mexico for the by-frequency
pages in the back, no DR at the end of the list on page 551. The
National Radio page for DR, 186, does include that 1640 station, plus
others on 1620, 1670 and 1680. They were all in the 2016 edition page
551; strange (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

That makes a lot more sense. Grupo Siete Comunicación is the full name of the company.

(Speaking of which, their own site doesn't list XHEOB-FM, a common head-scratcher...)

** OKLAHOMA. 1000, May 4 at 0446 UT, KTOK OKC with Dodgers baseball play-by-play, and not the OKC farmteam, because an ad for Southern California Toyotathon is then inserted, in the bottom of the eighth, just before midnight here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

    ===========

** U S A. 690, May 4 at 0556 UT, one minute of Fox News Radio, ``Mighty 690, KGGF, Coffeyvile KS`` ID (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 810, May 1 at 0417 UT, ``810KLVZ.com`` so Brighton CO station is back on the air. As of 2016 NRC AM Log in August, said it was silent as of 4/2016. But in DXLD 16-45: ``AM Log Updates: 810, KLVZ, CO, Brighton – Format to NOS (ex - Silent); slogan to "Legends 810/94.3," adds // K232FK - 94.3 (John Wilkins, NRC DX News Nov 14 published Nov 6 via DXLD)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1020, May 4 at 0446 UT, KCKN Roswell NM in Spanish sermon from WWRV 1330 NYC is S9+30, blowing away semi-local KOKP Perry OK.

Jerry Kiefer, FL, who used to be with KCKN, replied to my previous log of April 28: ``Greetings Glenn, Quick comment on KCKN. They might be running non directional at the moment. The night pattern throws 40 watts in your direction and the day pattern less than 500. Either could be screwed up. Not being in the loop anymore that's the only thing I can offer. Take care``

This signal is no 500 or 40 watts. How about 50,000, ND? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1070, May 1 at 0422 UT, KNX with IBOC noise circa 1057 & 1083, 0425 UT traffic on the fives at 9:25 timecheck. Not unusual here with Wichita nulled, and thus its IBOC is more of a factor than that from 1080 KRLD.

1147 & 1173, May 1 at 0426 UT, IBOC noise from KSL. I haven`t noticed any from 1170 KFAQ in quite a while, which would give KSL a take-that from 1157 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1240.20, May 1 at 0427 UT, quite a het against the 1240.0 pileup, presumably KCRT Trinidad CO, reported on 1240.19, as of March 20, 2015 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1479.967, April 29 at 0537 UT, 1-kHz step bandscan with BFO finds sore-thumb off-frequency carrier here; 0610 UT ad in English with a 972-904-#### phone number, and covering ``from North Texas north to Oklahoma City``. So KBXD Dallas not with Namaste at this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, May 4 at 1208 UT, song in Spanish about María with various rhymes such as fría; after a ``Tally-ho!`` as in Bollywood, 1211 UT English announcement, paraphrased, ``KBXD, 50,000 watts covering North Texas and as far as Oklahoma City to the north, Waco to the south. If you would like to rent this station, please call John Hammond, 972-904-5904``. Same music resumes in a loop, 1216 UT same announcement again.

So Radio Namaste is gone. Wonder why they couldn`t make it? Rather enjoyed their music and Hinglish chat. I question how much of a signal they put into OKC on daytime groundwave when really 50 kW. This daytime coverage map
    http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/patg?id=KBXD-AM&h=D
has OKC just inside its outer ``fringe`` contour, whatever that amount to. Night map of only 1900 watts shows a deep notch toward OKC and five others in a ``flower`` pattern; you couldn`t even hear it in Plano
    http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/patg?id=KBXD-AM&h=N
Radio locator also claims its format is still gospel music! This time no off-frequency het with KQAM Wichita, closer to 1480.00 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1530, May 4 at 0600 UT, WCKY in dead air interrupted by bits of Brother Scare who was already on the previous hour; finally 0604 UT cuts back on without breaking up. Meanwhile I could hear an understation in Spanish, probably KGBT among several other possibilities (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1590, May 4 at 0558 UT, Bing Crosby song, 0600 UT ``WAIK, Galesburg IL`` ID and back to another oldsong. NRC AM Log 2016-2017 had it as NWS/TLK/SPT, 5000/55 watts U4 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1700, April 29 at 0541 UT, I am paying more attention to the Spanish here from KKLF Richardson (Metroplex) TX. Slogan ID as Banda Trece plus información y deportes, but plays music, in fact a rock song in English! 0546 UT another ID, then Spanish romantic song. 0553 UT after an ad, I clearly copy non-ID as ``Banda 13, música, información y deportes``. So why isn`t it ``Banda Diez y Siete``?? Where does the 13 come from? Arctic Radio Club DXers were reporting this latest slogan change over a month ago, along with a verie displaying the logo.

NRC AM Log 2016-2017 had it as `Super Estelar`, Tejano format, with an address in faraway Corpus Christi. Radio-Locator currently shows even more outdated ``Kick 1700`` name. And ``no website``. O yes, there is, as a simple search reveals: Banda Trece is a ``network`` which came to 1700 at the New Year.

``Frecuencia Deportiva con Xavier Olalde is now officially on Banda 13. After broadcasting to the local Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Francisco and Miami markets, Xavier Olalde will have his show on Banda 13 Radio. The most popular Spanish morning sports show, Frecuencia Deportiva con Xavier Olalde, will air on Banda13.net weekdays from 7-9a Central Time. Along with the show, Banda 13 Radio will have programming for more Spanish sports shows, followed by music in the afternoon online at www.banda13.net or on 1700AM in the Dallas Fort Worth region, starting late November.

    Banda 13 Radio``

This still doesn`t explain where the 13 comes from, maybe approx. frequency of station in one of the other markets?? Various logos imply that the name applies only to this 1700 station, so the 13 may not allude to a frequency at all. Could be it`s of some sporting significance to the SS.

More about station`s history of format and ownership changes:

Not including Super Estelar; and ``Banda 13`` still unexplained. {It does say the KKLF calls originally were to duplicate 570 KLIF} (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1876, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
