Default NEW MEXICO FM logged in Eastern New York

Tuesday 6/12, I found an opening in progress after work, netting me 5 new FM loggings, including almost a personal best with KENW-89.5, Portales, NM. New Mexico is a new state: #38. Clear RDS dispay for several minutes (KENW-FM). The attached clip is NM state news at7:33pm, following NPR news. Interfering station is WPKN Bridgepoprt,CT. Distance 1671 miles.

Also new loggings between 6:40 and 7:20pm were KPRV-92.5 Heavener, OK; KOUA-91.9 Ada, OK; KNLQ-91.9 Cuba, MO; and KRPS-89.9 Pittsburg, KS.

Awesome log, Chris! NM from NY is just tremendous. On one of my radios here, I was recording 89.5 at the top of the hour at 7 PM eastern time, and based on your report I decided to peek ahead and see if I had anything, and I was able to snag KENW's legal ID. I had it much weaker than your reception with more CCI plus semi-local WKVP to deal with, but was happy to get it. 1605 miles and NM #2 here. Attached the clip with the legal ID at :11. Toward the end there is a TOH from WKVP.

Additionally...at 1915, I came across a fadeup of "Goodbye Stranger" by Supertramp on 100.5. I know that channel very well and thought it was unusual that a classic rock/classic hits would fade in at the time...with the skip area being strictly over OK and KS. I actually brought up the stream of KSFX in Roswell NM, and the song matched. I lost the station to KVWF in Wichita before I could get an ID or another song. I would not have counted it due to just hearing one song and the distance involved, but now after having discovered KENW, I am a bit tempted. Will have to review the rest of my audio.

Congrats again on the NM log!

Thanks guys. Nick... good going on KENW also!! They must have had the transmitter really cranked up Tuesday night!! Nice to see you might have bagged KSFX too. 100.5 is actually not a bad channel here... I have to remember to try for KSFX in the future.

KENW is a super catch! Can't get them here during skip due to local KNHC, but would love to get their // 98.7 KMTH sometime.

Cool NEW MEXICO FM logged in Eastern New York

Great catch. Anything greater than 1500 miles is certainly notable especially with RDS. New Mexico is still a needed state here. Checking my audio around that time yielded a strong NPR on 93.5 which faded just before a local break. The only probable was KRTS Marfa, TX (1746 mi). The station faded and was overtaken by KKTZ Lakeview, Arkansas (971 mi). That would further indicate 2x. 2x paths were certainly around that day. Other than that, the 2012 so far has been underwhelming.
