Ed, hopefully the filters will solve the problem.

When Jeff Kruszka lived in Baton Rouge, MFC built him a custom trap to keep an out of whack FM station transmitter from destroying channel 6. It was a "cavity" trap. That thing cost in the hundreds of dollars.

I sure hope you don't have to spend thousands more.

The RF/electrical interference is steadily worsening here. My son and I have tried without success to locate some of the problems with a portable radio. SW and MW are a mess here more often than not.

Unfortunately, that is the wave of the future for many DXers.

Yeah, I'm hoping the filters I've already purchased will help the situation... We'll see.

The tuned cavity type filter (click on link in post #10 and it'll be at the top of the page) is in the, "Don't a$k" price range. I sure hope I don't have to go to that extreme.

It seems Murphy is doing almost everything he can to prevent me from getting to DTV #700.... (I'm at 696, now) ... Cell site QRM, lousy propagation (no Es, no Tr) lousy wx (T-storms in the forecast 'til Hell freezes over) can't post to TV/FM Skip Log, and a young Red Tail hawk who insists on crash-landing into my antennas on a daily basis. The only thing that hasn't happened, yet, is a lightning strike. I suspect Murphy is waiting for me to install the filters before he unleashes that one.

Hey I am no expert on this Ed, but that picture on the other page about KET reception---I'm sure PBS wouldn't be happy to hear/see about this. Couldn't you show KET what's going on there, along with your 24? As PBS begs for donations (not that I send a penny to it), if they notice less ppl available to watch---er---see where I'm going with this?

IMO (FWIW), you shouldn't have to pay a dime for any of this. If you have to get traps & such, and it wasn't construction on your property to prompt you to get them, it would seem to me that Verizon/AT&T oughta foot the bill.

I have never sued anybody or been involved in a court case outside of jury duty, but maybe a good lawyer can fix this. (Just be sure to sue for additional attorney fees. )

But seriously, I don't know. Hey....tell them that you are a record holder----650+ TV stations received.....

Christopher, I agree. However, money-making corporations, the federal government, and the public are in love with all those new devices that use up frequencies and cause interference. Their view is that DXing is worthless and everybody should have cable/satellite TV.

My feeling is that TV nowadays isn't worth paying for. The classic channels MeTV & Antenna TV are 90% of my viewing. If it goes, it goes. Even sporting events, which I love but will eventually go all-cable, will be still on the radio, and with baseball & football I can paint a good picture in my mind (other sports will be iffy for me).

If it wasn't for TV DX & my video collection, I'd have no need for TV. As long as my CECB works well, no need to spring for a plasma one either.

(This is *not* how I felt 30+ years ago, though!)

These interference cases are a step-by-step process. I'll take it, one step at a time, and see what happens. With any kind of luck, filtering will cure the problem and that will be the end of it.

    However...

I do have a friend who works for KET so there is that option.

I do intend on trying to recover the cost of the equipment necessary to remove their interference from my equipment.

There are many ways of making life miserable for the companies / people responsible for the interference. I really hope it doesn't come to that, but, I've been down that road before.

Unfortunately it seems that the FCC doesn’t see any money in OTA TV so they won’t do a thing to help lessen this interference. This will be something that all of us will have to deal with sooner or later with the rapidly increasing proliferation of hand held devices that we can’t live without today. I have been experiencing increased RF noise over the past 2 years especially. I don’t know if it’s just poor conditions or this interference that is responsible for less decodes that I’ve been seeing on TV lately. I don’t even see “progress bars” on low VHF anymore during Es openings. Also the AM band seems to have even more “white noise” on it, especially on the lower end. It could also be that government mandated lighting, CFL’s and LED are causing their share of noise too.
