    Cool More Gulf Tropo (3/30,3/31,4/1)

Two nights of great trops across the Gulf. The first night favored FM, but last night favored TV. Here are the latest screengrabs:

WWL 36 New Orleans a little after 6pm Sunday (eastern time). Had one of the Insignia boxes sitting on it. Never heard it decode, but found "4-1" and the call letters in memory a half hour later. Around this time I was hearing three FMs from New Orleans.

WLOX 39 Biloxi made a very brief appearance on Sunday but was back big-time early Tuesday morning. Numerous subdecodes from the west, but nothing else logged on Sunday.

WHLT 22 Hattiesburg [896 km] returned since it claimed my DTV record in February. Like WLOX, its second appearance made for a much longer recording than the first. Even got the logo this time.

I waited to see if anything farther than WHLT would come, and was rewarded with WMAU 18 [1,016 km / 631 mi], which is south of Jackson, MS. This is my new DTV record, and getting real close to my two farthest analogs. I've now logged DTVs in every metro I had logged analogs in during 2005-2008.

Other screengrabs are WFNA 25 and WMPV 20 (the TBN), which are relogs.

More nice DX there Ryan. I'm enjoying reading about your catches. No real DX here since March 8th. I noticed the arps maps showing lots of "red" between South Florida and South Carolina the past few days. Have you been picking up anything interesting form South Carolina or Georgia?

Oddly, I've never seen anything from Jacksonville or beyond (I frequently hear WOKV 104.5, but its the only exception). Even with Orlando blasting in and red lines on the maps, Jax is like a brick wall.

Last night I must've had a duct up the Gulf Coast to Tallahassee: WTWC 40 decoded. I'd previously seen my box decode call letters with no picture, but this time I was able to make a video recording. No other TV DX was coming in at the time. Twenty minutes later I got WDHN 21 in Dothan, AL. Again, by itself. And it was decoding almost solidly for twenty minutes (during the middle of an infomercial, sigh).

Maybe Jacksonville and Savannah will come soon. Until a couple months ago, I had never logged Tallahassee or Dothan either.
