    Database revisions, updates, etc.

During my scan in Raleigh, NC I notices a few differences between the wtfda database and what I was seeing on my radio. While not 100 % sure these are missing or erroneous entries, it may be worth for someone local to check on these and may be validate them them as permanent database updates.

91.9 WFSS shows 63C2 in my scan
    93.5 W228CZ seems to transmit D2E7
    95.3 W237BZ seems to transmit D1E1
    95.7 W239CK seems to transmit D382
    97.9 W250AZ seems to transmit FF00
    99.3 W257CS seems to transmit D339
102.3 WKJO? seems to transmit 7008
103.5 WRCQ seems to transmit 081D not 81D0
    105.7 W289BD seems to transmit D21F

I'll check them out. You have 5 translators beginning with D that probably need to be changed in the database. -Mike

The are a bunch of incorrect PI codes being transmitted here as well. Some are just due to translating at the RF/IF level where modulation changes cannot be made. The incorrect code being transmitted is in red.

A couple of points to remember are that some station owners set up their translators to reflect the 'parent' stations' PI info rather than the D prefix PI which might apply. At other times where multiple stations are linked as part of a regional network, the PI code may be altered when programs are relayed from the primary and with the 'correct' PI code when programming is local. A few non-commercial statewide networks in KS & NE do this, and there are others I can't recall right now.

The FCC rules [74.1231(b)] requires the programming retransmitted by translators operating on commercial frequencies to be received from the primary station off-air. Some translators use receivers which take the primary signal down to an Intermediate Frequency (IF). That IF is converted to a different FM frequency which the translator transmits. The received programming, RBDS, SCA and even HD cannot be changed.

Other "translators" just used regular receivers and transmitters with audio in-between. The RBDS and SCA can be changed if desired. HD is expensive to recreate.

For the FM database we want the PI that the station is transmitting, not what it should be transmitting. Here in CT, one group of stations keeps moving equipment around between the stations it owns in CT and the stations it owns in MA. You have CT translators showing RDS with MA PI codes, and the reverse. I'm sure we are not alone.

For my listings I show what is being transmitted in red. I like to also log the correct PI code to make it easy to figure things out if they switch to the correct code (which they did for the two blank lines on my list).

Notes from Orlando, FL. Some additional work may be needed to confirm these.
93.1 W226BT transmits PI D147. Currently the database has D11B
        93.9 W230AL transmits PI 7B02
        96.9 W245CL transmits PI D481
        97.9 W250CE transmits PI F000
98.5 WSBH transmits 8451 currently listed as 8452
102.5 W273CA not listed in database transmits PI D11B. Seems to have been equipment swap. ID "La Zeta" 104.7 Kissimmee
        103.5 ??? transmits PI 63F6
        104.7 W279DI transmits PI 7DC9 (parent station)
