  • FrankenFM with a twist July 19, 2011

Just when the logging the Mexican talkshow with the vampire-Faux Queen was bad enough yesterday....

0917 CDT, tuned the Sangean down on 87.7 to check for ch6 TV audio and found not only a FrankenFM but one running RDS! ESPN Deportes radio affiliate on 87.7 with the following RDS Text:

ESPN, Deportes (text changing on top row)
    wcf (false call)
    87.7 DEPORTES RADIO

Fritze, was there any video on TV channel 6?

I had video of a still picture of a TV set on channel 6 a few times last year. I suspect it was somewhere near the border, but I don't even know which side.

      I think that's Denver.

BTW my local Almavision 87.7 Miami has RDS I found out, but the Sony is so "fine" that it will not display, either on 87.7 or 87.8.

Ive found the Sony is terrible at pulling in channel 6 audio due to its super fine filtering. My Tecsun portable on the other hand can tune directly to 87.75 and pulls in TV signals a lot easier. Do these 87.7 radio stations also have audio centered at 87.75 since they are technically TV stations according to the FCC? Seems like that along would mess up where the RDS signal was located and throw off most receivers.

Yes, and I should have pointed that out.....Almavision (not to mention all analog 6's) is unlistenable on the Sony XDR-F1HD. And yes that's why the RDS is not there.

Before Almavision signed on 87.7/6, I had a couple of months in the '09 E season to listen to either Cubavision in Havana or try to catch some 87.7's on Es. I had to re-route the cable to my stereo system, which isn't so "fine." The L in Chicago & the Pulse in NYC came in.

I didn't think to check the ch6 video then, I grabbed a camera quickly to get the RDS date photographed.
