  • 87.75 Beaumont, TX

I heard a station this weekend calling themselves "La Ley" on 87.75. What is the official callsign? A Google search shows it is from Beaumont, TX, and I definitely heard references to Beaumont. I did not see any images on the analog TV 6. I did have good signals from Houston area FMs at the time of reception. The PI code on the SDR was FFFF... so too vague.

They have a website and a logo that shows their calls, KIPS-LD, which matches in the FCC database. They have no license to broadcast in analog so I'm not sure how they are broadcasting FM audio legally. Here is a post from a few years ago where it was caught during ES.

OK, thanks. I cannot log this as KIPS-LD because that is a DTV station, and I did not receive a DTV. How is this even allowed? The FCC can't do anything about this?

According to the FCC, they are operating under an STA that allows them to run an audio carrier at 87.75 until their digital application is either finalized or rejected. Until either decision has been made, they can continue on the air with an analog audio carrier at 87.75. Their calls are KIPS-LD. They do not have calls issued for an analog signal.

The STA filing is located here...

This is the letter they filed with the FCC to temporarily operate as an analog TV station...

          Very nice catch, Andrew.

I've never seen it or heard it.
