  • 2,400 mile E skip !!

Yesterday (July 9) I caught skip from XHBC ch3 in Mexicali BCN here in Connecticut from around 6:50pm to 7:05pm. I clearly saw the "Tu Canal" revolving logo.

I also took some video with my digital camera and put it on YouTube. Mexicali is mentioned twice in this clip, which was almost discarded. I didn't get video of the "Tu Canal" logo because the camera's memory was full. But what I do have is proof.

There was a good 6 meter opening going on from this area to Arizona at the time.

Also last night brought in CKPR-2, WCCO-4 and another unid ch5 nightlight station, and later WWL-4 and KSDK-5 snowfree at times.
The MUF also made 107.5 for some time.

Great catch Mike, this log is certainly in a class by its own. It makes you wonder what else will make it as time goes on. Virtually anywhere that 6m can open to should be game if the signals are strong enough, and the location uses A2 or higher. There are some really exotic possibilities out there.

          Very good Mike.

Reminds me of the path from here in Portugal to Jordan/Syria E3 which is same sort of distance.

Were you using the D100 converter? Double/triple hop signals are inevitably
weaker and narrow bandwidth helps a lot, together with getting the audio
via a communications receiver/scanner and not via the TV which will be weaker.

Just watched this....that "IFE" thing has been ubiquitous in Mexican TV lately. See what happens when a pest local goes off? I get a chance in 2 days....cough cough.

BTW not bad on WMC-TV either.....man I need to start my DTV DXing.

No D100 this time. It went from the Winegard VHF antenna through a Winegard AP-3700 preamp with 17db gain and a 2.5db noise figure into a 1978 Goldstar 13" color TV with click tuning on VHF and UHF (for the D100). And actually this TV is less sensitive than my B/W 13" Zenith. It is worse than the D-100. But adding the preamp makes it better than both.

I find I cannot use the preamp with the D100. Well, I could but I have to turn down the IF and the RF gain on the D100, so what's the point, really.

And right now I have nothing that will tune straight through from 50-88mhz so I can't check offsets or audio. But I will in a day or two.

Great catch, Mike. Not a bad belated birthday present.

cd, have you heard the rumor that WPBT will be granted a power increase to 500 KW and become a TV Marti outlet?

                  That analog Ch. 5

that channel 5 might have been WUFT in Gainesville, FL north of my location. They are still nightlighting.

Who said, Conn. has no E's ! I remember getting Mexicali, back in my "younger days". Now think what you might be watching, IF you had a "Stacker", up on th roof ! ! Tahiti ? ?
