Your Guide to FM RDS: What Is It, and How Does It Work?

Whether you're new to the world of RDS (in the US its RBDS) or just wanting to get a better understanding of what exactly it is and how it works globally, you can look over this guide on the subject that has been put together by one of the largest broadcast organizations in Australia >>>

    https://www.mediarealm.com.au/articl...-system-guide/

The WTFDA FM Database - Https://db.wtfda.org - only tracks or publishes RDS & PI codes by FM stations that are KNOWN to be using the technology. In the US, the NRSC allocates a PI code - the PROGRAM IDENTIFICATION code and the key part of the RDS data - to every licensed full power and translator station in the US. But only about 50 percent of licensed FM radio stations actually use the technology. As active dxers, the WTFDA actively encourages the use of RDS by FM stations. The chairman and directors of the NRSC, a consortium of the NAB, are aware of the WTFDA and the support that the WTFDA offers to the NRSC in keeping FM stations organized in the use of RDS.

If you're interested in knowing which PI codes are assigned to full power stations and translator stations, whether the station uses RDS or not, you can look up your station of interest to see the allocated PI code. It's possible that a PI code popped up on your RDS enabled tuner but you don't see it listed in the WTFDA FM database, but you find it in the NRSC pages as a match to the station call letters and your tuned frequency. Perhaps the station just began using RDS but haven't fully programmed their encoder unit with the additional data, such as the PS Info, Radiotext, and PTY. Make a note of the station and PI code observed and let the FM DB editors know about it on the CONTACT US widget on the DB home page.

The NRSC allocated PI code pages are here....
