    Miami / Ft Lauderdale TV

Just got a new portable tv receiver which seems pretty sensitive and thought i'd try to scan the airwaves with it. Came back with 100 plus channels in South Florida. My antenna is mostly tuned for FM so I could probably catch a few more.

Make and model of receiver? Sounds interesting. I see Leadstar. Is this the one on Amazon for around $114? My wife has been bugging me for a portable.

This is a Leadstar D7. They come in sizes from 5 to 14 inches but I don;t know if I can really recommend it. It was advertised as having pvr/recording function. I now found out recording is only available on the dvb-t version, not atsc. The antenna port is very painful to use - it has a thread but they made it difficult to connect the antenna. The audio is very thin and weak for my taste. The good features - it is sensitive and it only cost me $66 delivered from China ( i got it in 5 days!). I ordered it so I can do travel scans with it. The Hauppage usb dongle i used is difficult to use. But if I had the need for a portable tv to use around the house or on a patio - I would use a tablet. Most cable providers now also give you online streaming access and if not _ you can buy a $20/yr iptv subscription that will play any regular or premium channel you want. By the way the tv also has an FM radio receiver but it looks like the bandwidth filter is extremely wide - a local station obliterates about a megahertz of spectrum. I also happen to have a small adapter that will let me use it as an external monitor for a pi and a mini pc as I turn those into sdr servers.
