It appears that there was some coastal ducting during this morning's crop of Required Weekly Tests (RWT). In Oak Island, NC, on 162.400 PiWxRx decoded a RWT from KIH26, some 370 miles away. KIH26 is located in Daytona Beach, FL. Reception of this Florida station would indicate that it was strong enough to overcome the semi-local station on frequency, KEC95, covering the Myrtle Beach, SC area. KEC95 is around 56 miles away. KIH26 is programmed by the Melbourne, FL Weather Forecast Office.
The receiver is a 1960's era Motorola Motrac "M" receiver. The antenna is outside with about 3 dB of gain. Inside the shack, the antenna is split 4 ways through a CATV splitter and feeds other WX receivers. There is no preamp - everything is barefoot.
