SDRConnect Unveiled Today for Download

It took them months but SDRPlay has finally uploaded the new SDRConnect software compatible with all of their RSPs except for the RSP1. It's available for Linux, Windows and Mac. I'm using it with Linux Mint 21.2 and it works fine. All it needs is RDS capability, which should be available in the not too distant future. Attached is a screenshot.

I downloaded SDRconnect last night and figured it out rather quickly. The interface is much simpler than SDRuno and easier to use. It's too bad it doesn't have RDS at this point. I've found diversity mode quite simple. Besides phasing out a particular local or IBOC, it looks like I can use it to reduce the noise floor that's being generated by my local FM towers. I wonder if this'll help get the noise floor low enough to decode meteor scatter RDS.

My noise floor is -125db or so, which is lower than what I got using Uno. Using diversity mode I could go lower. They found a couple of bugs in this Preview release that they are now working on. The major bug so far is that the sdr will occasionally freeze for a few minutes then unfreeze itself During the freeze the audio still works. So if you run into that problem (I have) just know that SDRPlay is working on it.

Mike, I suppose for now I can use RDS Spy? I don't have that, but I've heard about it. So perhaps I should download that and give it a try in combination with SDRconnect. I think with that and diversity mode, I should see what I can get. But one thing I noticed about diversity on SDRuno is that unexpectedly sometimes the phase would change randomly and remove the null I just created.

As far as freezing, I've found that when it freezes, put your cursor on the audio slider and it unfreezes. Sounds crazy, I know, but it works for me.
You can use RDS Spy with Console, you just need to set up virtual audio cable to do it. Bill Nollman gave me the link to get VAC as well as the instructions on how to do it. I don't think I have any of that anymore. I don't intend to use RDS Spy again.

Hi, I realize this thread is a little old, but you said you were using SDRconnect running on Linux Mint. I was unsuccessful in installing it on mine. Are you still able to run it? If so, would you kindly give me some detail about the installation? The videos and .PDFs from SDRplay are laughable.

Hi. Welcome to the forums! I haven't done this for a while so for practice I just installed it on another Dell desktop. Here goes:

1. Download the Linux x64 file and put it into the Downloads folder. (Looks like this: SDRConnect_linux_x64_0fd82d9dc.run)
2. Open up your terminal.
3. type cd
4. type ls
5. type cd Downloads and open up the Downloads folder.
6. type ls

Now, in the terminal, find the file and highlight it. The file should be something like SDRConnect_linux_x64_0fd82d9dc.run

7. Now go to the top menu of the terminal and choose edit->copy.

8. In the terminal, type chmod 755 followed by a space. Then do a edit->paste. The run file should paste in right after the chmod 755. Then hit enter.

9. Type this in the terminal: sudo ./ then select edit->paste again and the .run file should paste in right after the sudo ./ Then hit enter. Installation begins.

Now let the program install. When prompted hit Y then enter. If it asks anything else just enter Y. Eventually the installation will finish (a minute or two).

Now you need to create a shortcut to your desktop. The program will be found in My Computer > File System > Opt. Double click on the sdrconnect folder where you will see the 'gear' icon. Hold down Ctrl & Shift, put your cursor on the gear and drag the gear to your desktop and you are done.

The part with the terminal confused me at first. You do need to do the chmod755 [filename] first or the program will not install. I just copied thisfor myself so I'll remember how the next time :-)

Thanks, Mike! I followed your directions. For the benefit of others, you might want to edit your post, changing "type chmod755" to ""chmod 755". It took me a while to figure that out. But the installation worked perfectly after that.

I disliked SDRuno, and hopefully this will fare better in my opinion. To me the best SDR is one I can directly, easily enter frequencies, store and recall memories and adjust filters, like a webSDR I use. I like to do more listening and less playing with software. Not sure if this comes closer to my needs, will have to play with it.

I am so glad it worked. Yes, the video is not the greatest. Also you might want to give SDR++ a try. It will work with Airspy and SDRPlay SDRs. The dev is a college student in Belgium and he's done a great job with it. If you like the look of SDR#, you'll probably like this.
