    unIDs - local matters

Here are some unIDs from June and July where local knowledge might make the difference.

88.3 - Ohio Valley Electric - This was meteor scatter burst mentioned Ohio Valley Electric as a sponsor. It serves the tri-state area, so I know we're talking about OH/KY/In here. My guess is WAIF Cincinnati. But there could be other candidates. I have found nothing linking the utility to anything radio station related. Any thoughts on this one? Heard July 5 at 1618 EDT.

88.3 - TN ad ctry gospel - This was Es, but the opening only yielded this station, as I was setting up for the day it faded in, and you can hear yours truly overriding the recording for a moment noting that it was "probably Family Life" - but immediately afterwards it mentioned an ad for H2O WaterBiz and a phone number of 931-575-8966. This checks to Cookeville TN. In retrospect, the announcer and format strikes me as similar to "The Gospel Station" network which has two OK outlets on 88.3 and also one from Dibrell TN, which is fairly close to Cookeville. Does anyone know if (1) This indeed is The Gospel Station network, (2) If an ad or sponsor info like this would run across the entire network or be a true lockl indicator for Dibrell? Heard June 16 at 1108 EDT.

92.1 - TX Dallas Alert - Es. An amber alert for Dallas. This was a country station, so I'm discounting two Spanish Christian translators and one English Christian translator very close to Dallas. Burt there are two possibilities: KXEZ Farmersville is listed as 40.8 miles from Dallas. KTFW in Glen Rose is at 80.5 miles. KTFW is common for me via Es and I've never logged KXEZ. Curious for any comments. June 11 at 2040 EDT.

92.9 - KVRE ancr maybe - Es. The announcer is very local sounding, and almost sounds like what I'd expect to hear on KVRE AR. Any thoughts? AR-TX July 23 at 0901.

92.9 - Pastor Aaron Marster - Am I hearing this pastor's name correctly? Es area KS mainly, also OK TX AR. June 29 at 1143.mp3

104.3 - The calls really sounds like WGZE (or WGVE) and it's either Brown County or Green County's entertainment station. But nothing fits. Maybe I'm mishearing. Es to AL/MS/LA/TN mainly. Heard July 29 at 2120.

104.7 - 342-1047 oldies - The phone number is very clear, and a caller is put on air. But searches draw blanks. It's oldies. Es to TX AR LA July 30 at 1933.

106.3 - Serving the area - This clip says 'serving the tri-county area'. That may be all. Was hearing SC NC GA FL via Es. I'm hoping the announcer's voice is recognizable to someone. July 30 at 1606.

106.7 - Oldies seems local - TWO clips, one leading into an oldies track, on coming out of that song. In the first clip is a dedication to Tommy Hardin's son up at Whiteman Air For Base. That's in MO. This opening was to TX/AR through to FL/GA. July 30 Es at 2013/2016

Any thoughts, comments, leads are appreciated, with thanks!

Could the phone number on the 104.7 be 242-1047 instead of 342-1047? Then it might be KQBK/Barling AR. They're also mentioning something about USRA Factory Stock (races) at the end, and there was as USRA event scheduled at nearby Pocolo OK the next day. But (a) I don't know how old the songs are that the station plays, and (b) there are USRA races all over the place it looks like. So it's not a slam dunk to be KQBK.

On 104.3, I kinda hear "Greene County Entertainment Center", and there is a casino with that name at Eutaw AL, where WWPG/104.3 is licensed. Although WWPG doesn't seem to match the letters I hear either.

      Thanks, Speg, for these leads.

Re 104.7 ... Jim Thomas notes separately that KQBK Barling AR is a rimshot to Fort Smith, and the announcer also mentions "Interstate Inn" which is very nearby (across the border in OK). Whether the number is 242 or 342-1047 is interesting. The first number is a bit muddled. But KQBK is common enough here via Es that I am feeling definite on this.

Re 104.3, you say you ""kinda hear "Greene County Entertainment Center", and there is a casino with that name at Eutaw AL, where WWPG/104.3 is licensed. Although WWPG doesn't seem to match the letters I hear either."" ...
... Interesting that you mention WWPG Eutaw AL, which I actually am almost positive I had a minute prior on 104.3. But that one is also an oddity, as it's giving an ID (on 104.3) mentioning a station on 107.3 that I think is co-owned. I'm attaching that clip here...and although I am labeling it as WWPG I am still in the process of confirming exactly what it is.

Jim Thomas notes re the 92.9 - "The pastor is Aaron Mercer, who is the communications director at a very large church in NY (Syracuse?). Can't tell if he has a syndicated type program on a religious network or not."
I looked him up and thus far I have not made a slam dunk on it. He seems to have no obvious radio show, but may nevertheless be active with a religious broadcasters association. He also seems to be in Rochester NY. My next step may be to give him a call or e-mail...

Jim also thinks my 106.7 is in MO. He writes: ""The mention of Whiteman AFB without saying anything about a location makes me think it's a station IN the state of Missouri. My bets are on KDKN Ellington MO, which is in the southeastern part of the state. The small town accented announcer says "UP at Whiteman's Air Force Base", leading me to believe he was physically to the south of the Air Base."" I'm looking into this possibility. Thanks, Jim!

WMXB 1280 AM Tuscaloosa AL is carried on FM via translator W281CE 104.3. The translator licensee is Lawson of Tuscaloosa, Inc. WWPG 107.3 Eutaw licensee is Jim Lawson Communications Inc. When checking the FCC's LMS files for each station, both use the same mailing address >>> P O BOX 70427, TUSCALOOSA, AL 35407

WTFDA db lists W281CE as 104.1... and W281 does fit 104.1. But this one is getting interesting ...

You are CORRECT. In error, I typed 104.3, rather than 104.1, which is the correct frequency. The OTHER translator that carries WMXB is W297BJ 107.3, also assigned to Tuscaloosa. That translator is licensed to TTI, Inc (Dave Baughn). I didn't notice that translator when first pulling up FCC docs for WMXB.

Jim, The 104.3 is likely Eutaw AL, but that will be something I will check this week when I get to my BR DX site and have the wherewithal to focus on a couple situations where I need to contact stations. The other one as you know is the 1450 in Joplin. Solving unIDs can be intense. I just spent 2+ hours reviewing an AM recording of 1 minute over and over until I managed to pull out a full address given in an ad. I nailed a new station out of it, but the effort got me a 1340 in MA. Once I had just enough definitive info off the clip, I knew with sufficient precision what to search for. Gene's Automotive on Jean Street. Two different spellings of something sounding the same, and I wasn't even sure for awhile what that something was. I was thrilled when I was able to comfortably discern a complete address, and that helped me match up a second ad. The station was in the complete opposite direction of what I was getting at the time, and deep in the area the antenna was meant to null. I have dozens upon dozens of unIDs, if not hundreds, waiting in the wings. I could take a year off active DX and be busy...
